Sooooo friggin pissed right now........

I have had the same problem with my tank. I am out of town alot with my job as well and I have blamed my wife before when something happens to my tank. It would be nice if they would at least let you know that something looks wrong! All in all I think like everyone else has said it is our hobby and if your wife is like mine she does not understand the intricacies of our tanks! She just thinks it looks pretty! Sometimes I wish it was that easy but it's not. Sorry for your loss tho'. Good luck with it all.

Another benefit of the controllers is you can set the head unit to flash or beep. My girlfriend has called me before, "The box by the fish tank is beeping," me: "What does it say?" her: "Alarm XX" and I can tell her what to do from there. I know hindsight 20/20, etc.

That toadstool still okay? I can bring another tomorrow.

Actually the toadstools are doing just fine as are all my other corals. They didn't seem to care one bit. Just the fish and inverts. Just checked on the GBTA and he's not doing well at all. Any suggestions? He's in a QT tank with all the right params.

So what controller am I looking at here? An RKE?

And again...I appreciate (greatly...you just have no idea) the words of encouragement. It's always easier to place blame on others when in reality, it's my own fault.

I always blame stuff on my wife but she doesn't mind haha. :D

I use a camera like this, $120:

An internet accessible controller and camera is indispensable. Just the piece of mind is priceless. Good luck!

Thanks for that info. I'm techologically challenged. Do you have remote access to it somehow? I thought about putting one on my home PC (already have a webcam on it) and somehow seeing if I can make it remote accessible so then I can just "dial in" to the pc, turn it on and take a peak.

Yup, using something like this makes it easier because you wouldn't need to keep your PC on all the time, it's standalone and connects to your network via wifi or ethernet. And your PC is not "exposed" all the time.

You will need to service like Dyndns.com (which is free) so you can access your network from the outside consistently. If you already have a router, it should be pretty simple to set this up. If you decide to go with it and get the cam I can guide you via email. I'm sure a lot of people here are familiar with this.

Very interesting. I have a two routers here...one wired, one wireless. Both are within 6 feet of the tank. We need to talk!

Yep, no problem. I can help you out.

I like my Apex... I travel some and have it programmed to send me tank stats four times a day, alarms when temp or pH is out of wack, and when the cabinet gets wet.

Thanks Aston...IMO it was getting there and I was happy with it. This is a real setback. I was just about to start on the canopy too. I guess for now, that's on hold. Oh well....at least I still have it and hey....we all start over sometime. I'll get it back together!

LOL... on the beauty of a controller. In late spring I was down here in Atl and my tank was still in WI with my daughter and nephew when my daughter calls me at 1:00am. I can hear the alarm going off in the background and before she can tell me to make it stop, I'm into it and see that the temp was at 83 because our AC went out and she never told me...

Sorry for your loss. Be pissed, but don't call your wife out on a public forum. Just bad juju in the long run.

Regroup, rebuild, learn and make it better =)

Cheers.
