I'd like an acrylic look down box for my camera. Good quality, and I'd rather not have to pay an arm and a leg for it. I really need a place where I can screw into the base of my camera - I'd rather not hold an acrylic box with one hand and a $4k camera in the other...

Does anyone know where I can find such a box?

I may need to break down and have MRC make me one...

Found it:

That may work.

Anyone know of others?

You probably already know this but Jeff McPahil does acrylic work. He might can make something for you. Probably be reasonably priced too.

What type/brand of camera Mojo?

Canon 5D MkII with 24-105mm or 100mm macro. I'd have to measure it to determine actual dimensions. IE - prosumer-sized dSLR.

I've volunteered to help out with the TOTM. I've always wanted one for my own personal use, but now I think it'd get a lot more use if I could use it on TOTM tanks as well.

I've got the skills (well, mostly... I'm not MRC ) and equipment (router, table saw, etc), but no time. I have some acrylic, but nothing black.

If you're willing to wait a month or so for me to clear some things off my plate, I might be game.

Wow. Dude, that is a serious camera, but you know that! I'm an Olympus guy, and this makes me green! I was going to suggest a waterproof housing, but as you are aware, they cost a fortune. I will be curious to see what you come up with. There are some independent housing designers out there. You may want to look them over too. With this type of rig, I might be tempted to get it in a housing, just in case. Then you could take it under with you on trips, etc. Keep us posted.

a guy on another message board makes them. ive been a part of this board a long time and people say the build is great. it may be worth a look.

here is the link to the for sale thread.

Nice looking work!

I have one that looks a lot like Melev's that you can borrow to see if you like it or would need/do something different.

Oh, I'm well aware of the underwater housing options! ;) I'm selling my XTi setup http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35436">here</a> (listed here for fun - also on ebay and couple other sites) so that I can replace it for my current camera. They're certainly not cheap. Honestly, it's too ungainly to use in a tank - it's too big even for my 240g setup... However, I am trying to figure out something so that I can use my underwater strobe for top down pictures and fill light.

snowManSnow- thanks for the link - that one looks much nicer than Melev's...

I have this one it's ok. You can look at it and see if you like before you buy one.

Joe what are the dimensions of that box?

I was going to suggest Scott at aquarium specialty, but Joe beat me to it. For the $, it's not worth the hassle of making one.
