Spirorbis, when do these start to appear? I have them and I am amazed at the amount I have. They are all over the back of the tank and on the lower parts of the sides and one powerhead. I figured it would be a year or more before I started seeing them...

Does anyone else have them?

Right near the top of page, under copepods.

Lets hope they are not a phase. I like that i have a healthy tank. I will keep track of them to see if I see an increase of decline in them... I have given up on the pineapple sponges and hope they decrease soon.

But being the tank is has only been up since January... transferred from a 10g.... i just didn't expect to see them so soon.

We set our tank up in December and started to see them popping up over the past month or so. I have read in a couple of books that they are signs of a healthy, clean tank as well.

I am hoping they are the "lucky crickets" of my reef.

I think Barbaras point was that they arent really the sign of a healthy tank, just more of an animal that when introduced has little competition, goes through a boom phase, and then eventually evens off to a sustainble population, in most cases.

Not that your tank is not healthy, since it must be realtively ok for inverts to thrive, but they will likely decline as hungry critters weed out the population, and nutrients in the system become used up by other inhabitants.
