SPS growing horizontal versus vertical

Hey,
My SPS tend to grow horizontally rather than up towards the light. Does that mean that there is too much light, something else, or normal?
 
There are a lot of variables . In my limited experience the growth patters tend to have more to do with flow

Interesting..thanks. There is a bit of flow so that may be it. It is interesting, the ones that were vertical frags have grown sideways and one that I puttied in place at an angle, thinking that it would turn toward the light has continued to grow that direction and downward a bit. The have full polyp extension so they seem happy though.
 
to add to this, my Montipora capricornis, is growing downward. I have thought about moving it lower in the tank so that they will turn upward to form more of vase-like appearance
 
Some acros have a horizontal growth pattern, like in this pic of wild acros in the ocean.
