I pulled the trigger and bought a trio of square back anthias. Has anybody had any success stories or tips and tricks for these guys? They were all eating at the LFS and i havent added any new fish in my tank for months. My tank is well est for over 2 years and have a 120 with a 75 sump and about 200lb lr. I know they need multiple feedins per day but what else do they need?

Maintaining groups of anthias in aquariums is not as simple as it may seem. There are A LOT of factors that will contribute to success or failure. What size tank? Rockwork? Tank mates?

Clean water, they like current for feeding, may feedings a day, nice tank mates since they are very susceptible to stress, and they love cleaner shrimp.

One of the best fish I have ever had the privilege of keeping. They do like being fed several times per day.

Live brine are a hit, and they can be trained to take frozen foods, easily done in my case.

As a treat, I fed mine small/baby guppies several times per week (I fed the guppies well, including Selcon soaked food). I think this is one of the reasons I was successful with these guys. They would shoot through the water like rockets, going after those guppies!

FWIW- my male would follow me down the length of the tank, like a puppy. He knew me, and didn't react that way to anyone else (including my brothers). He could also be coaxed to lay on my outstretched hand. Very intelligent fish, IMO!

That's good to hear. Ill try live brine as well as guppies. My wrasse would probably be happy with both as well.

I have a trio in my tank - I made sure they were all eating before I got them. I feed them 3-4 times/day. Mine have done well on spectrum pellets and PE mysis

I feed Hikari Mysis. I prefer it to PE, seems to be cleaner to me and much larger pieces. Anyway, fed about a hour ago and the male was chasing food everywhere, i think the other 2 ate but didnt really pay attention cause the male was acting crazy lol.
