Stand Canopy Refinish

I am refinishing the stand and canopy for my 100 gal. aquarium.
I want to paint it and was wondering if any of the folks out there have a preference regarding paint that I should use. I will paint it black with white on the inside for visibilty. I have looked at Rust-o-leum and was wondering if anyone has ant experience with it. Any suggestions are welcome.

What kind of wood is it? Are you sanding it down to bare wood? Both of these factors make a difference. I haven't had good luck with rustoleum and wood. However, if you put a good coat of primer, then rustoleum will probably work. I've heard that latex paint is actually pretty good to use.
