Hey everyone,

Name is Nick, new to the area but not as new to the Reef tank hobby. Currently running a Corallife Biocube. Previously I had a 90g and a 110g reef tank back in '09. Out of the Army and finally settled in for the most part so I decided to get back into the hobby.

Due to sharing space with a roommate I decided to go with a smaller tank just based on the smaller foot print and the reaction of him coming home to a huge tank randomly appearing in the living room :X

Specs:
29g Biocube
15lb live rock w/ live sand bed
2 "designer" clowns
1 Diamond goby
1 Midas Blenny
Clean up crew
2 mushrooms
A pod of Zooanthids
Plate coral
Hammer Coral
Birds nest
Leather
2 Lobos

I am in the process of setting up a fuge in the second chamber of the biocube. I have built my own little shelving unit out of egg crate to create a directional flow of the water to go threw my additives/floss and keep a calm flow for the algae in the fuge.

Let me know what you guys think! Im always welcoming constructive criticism because at the end of the day, were dealing with living things here.

Hey Nick,
Welcome back to the hobby glad you found us ARC addicts!

I had a cube like that with black sand once, nice tank! How long have you had it set up?

Deb

Welcome here and back to the hobby!
I like the way you setup the egg crate to let the water drip to the different media, due to the space in the Biocube, it remembers me one that I've seen before, not in a Biocube but almost the same drip process, where they used the long flat shelving trays made of plastic, they drilled a screen of holes on top and in each tray and fill each tray with different media then just pull out every tray whether you want to swap or clean it.

hey nick,
welcome to the ARC and happy to have you back into the hobby.
post pictures as you go along, we love pics.

I know how it feels when youre following a thread and you want to see what theyre talking about!

It seems ive already run out of room? How do you add more photos on these forums?

Photobucket links?

That would work, or you could become a paid member and get more space.

Couple of updates on the tank!

Everything is still looking good, and the corals seem to have made the change well. Although my hammer coral hasnt been expanding or eating mysis shrimp, hopefully this is just a temporary thing.

So in the pics:

My snails we climbing on each others bodies, not their shells, and twisting around a lot and then stayed like that for like 5mins... Ive never seen anything like it, any ideas?

As you can see, my leather totally loves me and loves to show itself off xD

My goby found what I believe was a large bristle worm and has been trying to eat the whole thing. I cant get to him to try and cut it into pieces.

Overall the tank is going well and Im happy im back into the hobby!

Got some new rock that I am going to be switching out in the tank. Right now I am using my old tank water after water changes to get the rock to cure without being in the tank and killing off everything.

Unfortunately the rock is doing worse off than I had hoped for so this is going to take longer than I had hoped.

I have the Extreme SPS LED upgraded lights from StevesLEDS on their way and I am very excited to put those in so the tank not only looks better, but I can get a much wider array of corals.

Treated myself and my tank for Christmas.

I have a Tunze 9001 Protein Skimmer AND a Maxi Jet 1200 on its way!!!

Looking into getting a mid-size media reactor as well. By the time im done with this tank Ill have realized I shouldve just gone bigger than a biocube :p

LEDs, Skimmer, Pump, Media basket- My tank better start behaving!!!

Well out with the old and in with new.... Rock that is!

Got the new rock in and everything is looking 1000% better than before. Finally have a lot of room to place different corals and my fish have a lot more places to hide but be seen at the same time.
