Stinky sand?

I got some sand out of a tank and it all died. I washed it for a long time untill the water coming out of the bucket was almost perfectly clear, and let it dry outside the last two days, but it still stinks. Is that OK, or should I toss it? I don't wanna have cyano all over my sand bed like my last tank.

it's organic matter decomposing... if its stink it's not good... let dry for a longer time.. maybe a week.

Hmm I don't have a week, guess I am off to buy some more sand...
