New to the hobby and wondering if I should vacuum my substrate or not. I know people who do both

Short answer; Yes

Long answer:YYYYYEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!

Even if it's a DSB, you should lightly vacuum the top.

my vote as well

stupid question (I guess). Using a siphon vac I would be vac off the sand as well not like the large gravel bed i had with fresh water correct? Just replace with some new sand on top????

Kink the vacuum hose if need be to keep the sand from being sucked up, as happens occasionally with very fine sand.

You'll get the hang of it........

Different strokes for different folks. In the 93 I have an extremely shallow sand bed and don't vaccume it. I have two rays in the 210 that keep it pretty stirred.

I chose not to vaccume, however I recommend it. Hypocritical, huh?

I don't feed very heavily, and I have a huge pod and worm culture growing down there, and I figured that I might as well leave their little Eco system alone.

For a heavily fed tank, this won't work as well.
