I fragged some Idhao grape monti because it was either being stung or getting some other cause of STN. Some of the frags are doing find and some got covered in a mucus right away. I tried blowing it off but the portions with mucus turned grey, a few were have covered and half normal and the mucus half is grey, the other half looks fine. This was 2 days ago. Any thoughts on the cause of this one? I'd like to avoid it in the future.

No expert but...... I was given a bunch of corals that were dying from a tank crash. Some them were totally gone by the time I got them home. One of those, now has a tiny spot that looks like a pally starting to grow. The other (an open brain) was nothing but skeleton. A week later there were about 4 mushrooms growing on it. Now, half of the skeleton looks like the brain is coming back. In the little experience I have, I have learned not to throw any of it out. If nothing else, it becomes live rock over time right?

Don't worry about the Idaho Grape, it is a fast grower and very tough. In my reef it became such an encrusting pest I killed it all, as it was growing around the base of acroporas I had. Keep an eye on it.

No no, they were fragged by myself! I'm just curious about the mucus really for my own education. I've fragged lots of plating monti before, though this is my first time doing the Idaho Grape. I'll take some pictures tonight. Some of the frags are literally half doing good and half dead and the line is exactly where the mucus was.

Sure you want to go there. LOL. :-). Just kidding. Some of the stuff you gave me when you had your crash didn't make it at all but some is coming back nicely. :-)

Just taking a guess, could it be a Brown Jelly Infection? Blowing the 'mucus" might be spreading the it around. When you can post some pics, I'm curious

There has been no death since the fragging, and I didn't get a picture of the coral with the mucus. The polyps that were under the mucus is whats not bleached, and as you can see the rest seems to be doing well and hold its same deep color. I have several half dead frags, and the parent colony is holding its own without further necrosis. Monti is confusing stuff sometimes
