I made one a while back, they work great. I would recommend adding a second chamber for arragonite to bring the PH back up, and you will have to keep a close eye on the flow rate or the tank will start smelling like fart. Also watch your phosphates so they dont go up as the nitrates go down and you stop doing water changes.

All that said, more live rock or some kind of algea fuge or reactor would be a better option.
