Please enlighten me. The only thing that I think I know is that the drain should go into the first chamber along with socks an skimmer baffles somewhere in the middle then n the last chamber the return pump.
But what goes in between as far as fuges and stuff. I guess I want to know the installation and mechanics of a DIY sump. Thanks in advance for y'alls help :)

We could talk for a month and still not cover everything about sumps!
Here is a good place to start: http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html">http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html</a>

After you read everything on the first page go to the left side of the page and click on "simple sump and refugium". After that go through all the "varied sumps".

Once you go through this site if you have any specific questions let me know.

heres a sump i built earlier this year it might give you some ideas. the design is pretty simple the first chamber is for the filter sock. second chamber is for media such as matrix, carbon, gfo or a mix of any of them (you would need to use a media bag if your using any media besides live rock or matrix). the third chamber is where the heaters go and where the water exits into the large space in the middle which can be used for a skimmer or fuge. and there is the bubble trap which leads into the return pump area.

If you have a skimmer with a submersible pump, then you want a section with constant water level just big enough for it(can be the same section where the water enters the sump with filter socks)

You want your return section to be pretty large to account for evaporation, and back flow for power outages.

Fuge can be put either in between the first section and the return section, or on the other side(alternate location for water to enter the sump) depending on how much flow you want going through it.

Layout and baffles are up to your design.

Thanks. I did run across that page but just gathering info right now and asking for the purpose of each chamber and stuff, to compare. Basically just brainstorming.
