Like many of us that are addicted to this hobby, we are continuously upgrading and going to larger tanks. It's sick that I need one of everything. Lol Unfortunately, I promised the wife I wouldn't go to a larger DT. So my only option was to go bigger downstairs. Over the past month I've been able to pickup most of my equipment that I will need for the upgrade.

Highlights that I will be adding to my existing setup: 36" ruby red trigger sump, a 40 gallon refugium and a 60 gallon grow out tank. I will also be moving my 48" shallow reef frag tank to the sump room.

As it progresses I'll update with pictures.

i've got a 36" tideline sump - trigger sumps are the best. You're going to love it.

I had a free afternoon to get my sump room stand built, so an amazing and very talented friend (you might recognize him in one of the pictures) helped me throw it together in about 5 hours. The stand is 10' long and will hold a 200 gallon sump on the bottom with (2) 24 gallon refugiums that gravity feed into the sump. On the top of the stand (riser) I have a 24x18x9 glass cages frag tank and on the lower shelf I have a 60 gallon grow out tank. Up next: paint and lots of acrylic work.

I would seriously rethink how you have that lower shelf supported on the inside.

Dont rely on screws to support that weight, rely on wood touching the floor.

The center brace is removable. That way the sump can be pulled out if it needs any service work done to it. The brace is double blocked with an angle cut as well for more support. None of the screws are supporting any weight of the stand and all sides are supported with 2x4s on the inside to carry the weight. That's a great point Ender as screws would never be able to carry that amount of weight.

I would run the rail for the lower shelf all the way to the opposite side for support if you want the center leg to be removable.

Great idea. But, keep in mind the frag tank is less than 30 gallons spread out over 4'x18"s. So not much weight on the top Shelf.

Yeah my engineer mind sees stuff like that and the flags go up lol.

30 gal is still over 250lbs. Plus if you decide to change it later you dont have to worry about it.

Just remember screws and nails are there to hold wood together, not support weight.

Lol. That is your profession and I really appreciate the look over! It's much easier to make changes now. I had only planned on removing it after draining the two top tanks and only if serious changes or repairs needed to be completed on the sump. Do you still think I'll need more support? Thanks again for your professional opinion.

I'll go ahead and add lag bolts to the removable support beam. That should hold plenty of weight when emptied. Thanks again for pointing that out.

Is that BP that you have wedged on top of a tank? I think that's a great spot for him lol! Everything is looking great though. I don't know anything about all that, but it looks impressive to me :-)

Thank you Sherri! Marlon is bench testing the weight load lol. I won't say how much he weighs though. ;)

Decided to get the stand painted today. To me there is nothing worse than painting. Lol. I chose to go with a color changing (depending on light source) Aqua marine paint. I still haven't decided on whether I'll skin the stand if not. Acrylic work is next, then plumbing and finally switch everything out.
