I just got a small suncoral and have heard it could be trained to come out during the day is this true? How do you do it if so and any tips to make it thrive will be most appreciated. Thanks again guys n gals
Take a 2 liter soda bottle....cut it in half....get a piece of .5" PVC long enough to come out of the top of the tank.....drill a few small holes in the bottle top.....glue the PVC into the nozzle of the bottle top....place the contraption over the suncoral....pour food down pipe....thn leave in on there for a little while....(hour or so, they are slow eaters)....once they ingest the food remove pipe and bottle.....SLOWLY!!!!(or you'll cover the coral in sand....and it doesn't like that....(all this assuming you hav placed the coral on the sand bed).....you can take a turkey baster and lightly push air into the tip of the pipe to stir up the food....do it to hard the polyps will close up and you'll stir up the sand....this will help keep the food suspended so the polyps can catch it....any extra food left over your fish will eat when you remove the bottle...
So basically i need to feed everyday when they come out or try and coax them out in the day, they like good flow and there seems to be a debate about placing them in the light. Soom people say it doesnt matter since they dont use it while others say the light may be harmfull to them. What do you guys think or do? sorry they were indeed an impulse buy and I'm down to put in the extra work these guys need.
Mine are in the light.....and I've actually had a few new heads grown since they've been in there....they do grow in overhangs in the ocean....but since they aren't photosynthetic they are usually fine being in the light....as long as it's not strong....so maybe a shaded area or if your running T5s....on the sanded maybe over in a corner where they won't get much light should be fine....mine are right in the middle under my T5s....no problems in the last 7 months they've been in the tank
whenever food hits the tanks, if mine aren't open, they open right up.
If you try some garlic, that generally wakes up my tank pretty well...
When I feed the suns, I spot feed the rest of my corals too, and have ALL flow turned off for 10 mins while I do it. That gives them enough time to get a good hold on the mysis. (along with everything else that is eating)
