The right one cut out, so then I switched the bulbs and then the left bulb, which WAS the right bulb cut out...
so I take it that the bulb is defected? and I dont have my reciept....

Might be the case....... Talk to Tim.

Why is this in New Member Q & A? </em>You've been around as long as I have.

i figured Id get more response and there really isnt a section for equipment...i guess the D.I.Y but thats more for like building IMO...

it could be that the connection isn't secure. insure that it's seated properly and that each end of the bulb is perfectly alligned.

would trying to start a pulse start lamp with a probe start ballast have anything to do with it? I know that there are differences, but I'm not really sure what they are...

Sound like you're killing the radiums by using the incorrect ballast. European lamps require a large amount of start up power, something standard ballasts cannot provide.

What you describe is quite common with radiums when not using the correct ballast.

^^ THAT is what I was talking about... but again, I'm not sure of the differences (or how to tell which ballast type you've got.. )

Again, have you checked and rechecked connection to both ends of both bulbs? It is very difficult to see if they are "seated" correctly.

Again, I have Radiums in my Sunpod, no issues. That would mean that you should not have any issues either.

Since u are, it's either the bulb connection, the bulb itself, or the ballast.
Call tim and call current.

yes i checked the connection again. Ive had bulbs like this before and never had a problem with a bad connection. I turned the light on and it ran for about 30 or so mins and then that same bulb cut off.

Negative. Just because you've been lucky, doesn't mean everyone else must have the same luck. You both are using the incorrect ballast to drive the radium lamp. Some radiums will blow out quickly, others will last a little longer and either fail prematurely or shift quickly.

I've personally seen this happen.

Wait a minute, what wattage and is it se or de? Let's make sure we're talking @ the same thing. I'm assuming se (not sure if radium even makes a de).

He has a 150 DE bulb. I am talking with my supplier about the warranty. Radium only offers a bad out of the box warranty. But, I am seeing if they will work with me on this issue.

Thanks,
Tim

Ahhhh, de is a different story. Ignore my original posts as they only apply to se lamps.

The hqi ballast will fire the radium bulb properly, so long as it's actually pushing what it should.

Bulb manufacturer's are hit-or-miss @ warrantying premature failures as there could be extenuating circumstances that led to the failure. Worth a shot though. Keep us posted as to what happens as I just purchased a sunpod 150 hqi and would've loved to use the radium.

Ok, I heard back from my supplier. I need to send the bulb back and if it test bad, the will send me a replacement. I have these in stock so I can swap you out at the store.

The catch is, if they can't reproduce the issue, then they will charge me for the replacement bulb. Which means I will need to charge you for the replacement. I will offer you a discount to cost if this occurs.

Thanks,
Tim

I put the new bulb in yesterday and it ran for a good 5 or 6 hours with no problem.
today it has been running since 11:30 and still on...

I had a similar issue on a sunpod and I took it back to aquabuys and the new one is fine I believe chris at fish scales had the same problem also. The new 150 hqi bulbs are new and I believe they will work out the problems in time.

i must be jinxed...the new bulb just cut out.
maybe I should call up radium? in the mean time Im going to run a phoenix I have sitting around and see how that goes.
i have a feeling that is not my lighting fixture because the "good" bulb that I have hasnt cut out once and it has been on the right socket and the left.... but ill bet Im going to have to put some cash for bulbs...

okay so heres what i did.
I replaced the possibly "bad" bulb with the pheonix bulb that has never cut
out on me before from another system..the phoenix is 2 mohe for nths old.
so that is up and running in the sun pod and we shal wait and see what happens...

now for the "bad" radium bulb...I just hooked it up to the system that I used the phoenix bulb in that has NEVER given me a porblem...so we shall wait....
should be interesting.
