cool very cool i was wondering about t5,s im starting a 240 and was going to use t5,s and power compacts but everyone keeps telling me i need mh but i dont want the heat tks

Don't NEED mh for sps. Something else I like about t5 is that the wattage is spread over the whole tank. I mean if u have a fixture w 2 x 250 hqi over a 48" tank us say that ur pumping 500w into the tank. the problem is that it's only 250w over half the tank and u need 2 to cover the entire tank. If u have 500w of t5 over a tank u have an actual 500w the entire length, not just 250 on each half.

Ya I'm partial to t5 haha. Guess I'll have to learn the hard way Hugh? Hehe

im running a 30 gallon now on just regular light fixtures (2) one with atinic and one woth 10000 daylight not great but set up tank as a seed for my comeing 240 i have 46 different corals in it now almost all frags but a few nice mother colonies and i have had great growth on all sofities and my pink pogota was 6 inches around when bought 4 months ago now almost 10 inches he is awsome but what i think is the better spectrim you have and the more coverage you have the more corals you can manage but the mh's seem too pricey and tooo hot but i do now some corals will have to be very high up to get enough light with t5's but i think it will be worth it im an old newbie lol had a 55 reef for 10.5 years back n the i wish i could keep them alive more than a few years time lol this is a great new reef hobby now i love it i use old experience with new working so far.:yay:
