Every time I read a thread about a fish stuck to a power head, I think that the fish HAD to be sick to get stuck to a power head. I got back into town yesterday to find my scopas tang stuck to my vortech. His mouth was so far stick into the slits on the intakes his lips were almost touching the impellar. I thought he was dead. I turned off the PH and he stumbled off. Today, he's swimming around like nothing happened and is eating. I was out of town and not really sure how long he was stuck, but he's fine now. Weird... I now think I should question whether or not a fish has to be sick to get stuck to a powerhead...

Wow, amazing what fish can survive through. Matt do you have the vortech foam head thing to go around the actual wetside?

when they're sick and get stuck it's usually on the side not the nose, he was probably looking for algae.

I lost a fish to a power head, bought the foam covers and had them on for a few months but they limit flow a little. I'm running without them now and even with small fish around nobody had a problem... so far

offer nori on a clip? clean the powerheads in vinegar more often? They are so easy to clean....

Nah. I have mine ramping up to full blast at times b/c the tank is a BB. When the foam gets clogged, it cuts the flow tremendously. More than half. I use the foam when I have a new nem or a nem on the move. Other than that, they get clogged too quickly.

Lol, I have never had any of my vortechs all the way up so I figured he didn't as well. So that's my bad.

Yes and yes, Ralphie. I actually have two wetsides and change them out every week or two. I'm not sure why the scopas was in a position to get stuck, but he did. As I said, I was out of town.

The foam covers don't only limit it a little, they limit it a lot, unless you change them out and rinse every day. I used them for few days after a 'nem walked into one of my 40s a long time ago, but they were such a pain.
