tangs!

Alright guys/girls in my 125 i currently have one a yellow tang, sailfin tang, regal tang, 1 false perc, bar goby, royal grama, and a blue damsel. The sailfin was added today and is being accepted. My question is this, with those three tangs already, would it be okay to add a achilles to my tank come next year?

My personal opinion I would not in that size tank. Good length but not much room to turn around or claim it's own space and play nice with the others. Since they are more delicate and would get stressed alot easier I would be worried about the overall health of the fish as #1 in that space with that combo and number of tangs.

But on topic....I would say you have enough in there with the Sailfin addition. I don't know if you are aware, but IME Sailfin tangs grow really fast. He will probably be the biggest fish in your tank within a year.

I have five tangs (Kole, RS Purple, Naso, Sailfin, Gem) in a 300 gallon.

I have to agree as well. I have a 210 and have a yellow and kole tang along with a foxface and think I have too many. I think you would best to stop where you are and if one of them passes do not add anymore.

Sailfin is already the larges, I will take your advice into mind.

Tha sailfin will be quite aggressive. I would advise against another large tang, especially an achilles.

Achilles are notoriously hard to keep. I'd recommend doing lots of research before thinking of trying one... even if you were willing to go larger or rehome something else to do it.

My Sailfin is the largest in my tank and he is not aggressive. He will occasionally expand his fins and 'heard' the other fish but never chases or nips at them.

Of all the members of my Tang Gang, the Naso and the Gem are in charge, but everyone gets along pretty well. The occaisional torn fin, but that is about all. No one is really ultra dominant.

well my yellow used to be the boss of my tank and harrass the regal a bit here and there normally swimming with it most of the day and seldomy gets in a bad mood, but now that the sailfin is in there and two three times the size of the yellow, their is no aggresion from any of the fish at all not even the yellow to the regal. I am going to pass on the achiles for now, till i get my 300 gal then i may look back into it.

In my 300 I have 2 Regal, a blonde naso, a red sea sailfin, a purple, a tomini and just added a powder blue, a copperband and released the Heniochus I was trying to sell. The sailfin and the purple went into harassment mode almost immediately. I pasted pics of the last 3 on the glass and the picking has subsided somewhat. I tried adding an Achiles months ago but lost it to Ich. I wouldn't recommend you getting one either.

Out of the 10 tangs in my tank the scopas is the biggest bully but even then it is directed toward the other fish in the tank.

Funny you mention that, my scopas picks on everything in my tank (somewhat passively....not really super aggressive) BUT the other tang??? He HATES my firefish which is pretty much hidden all the time now:sad:

Quick question about tangs, are powder blues know to harass other fish to death or tear fins? Ours messed up our flame angel and he ended up dying and they were put in at the same time.

Flame angels are finnicky as ****... it probably wouldn't have been as bad for any other fish. I had one who had a heart attack when I moved some rocks... the only fish out of 5 that died.

Adding another tang would be questionable IMHO -- I also have a 125 (6') with a yellow tank, sailfin, and Naso. The Naso is the boss because he's the largest. He lets the sailfin know he's top dog. All get along fine and have been together for just over 2 years.

Also have a flame angel who is doing very well (fat as a pig) as well as a copper banded butterfly. The CBB was a concern at first -- but after about 2 weeks she began to swim without hesitation with the 'big boys' -- she knows how to hold her own.

Just removed a blue jaw trigger who did not get along with his brother. They were sold as a mated pair -- only to learn later they were both males. They did fine for a long time - but as they matured one became less tolerant of the other.
