I am setting up a small Nano to house my overflow corals - frags. If I use 70% of the water out of my current display and 100% of the LR out of my current display for the Nano I should not have to wait correct? I will be using about 80% new sand but 20% of sand from my display also. Thanks!

Not a dumb question, Man. LOL...

I'm not seeing anything to start a cycle from what you posted above. As long as the LR is moved directly from one tank to another quickly before anything has a chance to die off, you should be fine...

One more question... Is the new sand live or dry?

Depending on how old the sand is it may create a very small cycle, I would use new sand and a small cup of the old bc it sounds like you're trying to seed it. But as the above post said the live rock should be enough. You might see a diatom bloom from the silica in the new sand but thats it....

Thanks folks. I appreciate the help. Was just going to use a cup of the "old" sand.... Nano is only 12G.

I've swapped tanks in the past and just did a really good cleaning of the sand and haven't had issues. It really depends on how dirty the sand is. You should be fine but I would avoid adding new livestock for a week or two to let things settle in.

Reusing the water won't help with anything.

I wouldn't reuse the sand. Take some to seed the new sand and you should be pretty good. You'll still go through a mini cycle since you'll lose a lot with the sand, but I think it's worth it as you can have a nightmare if you release nasties from the sand.
