What are your thoughts on how long a tank will last? I've had mine for about 10 years now. Do the seals ever wear out or start to leak?

My first 55gal thank lasted me like 15 years served as both fresh and saltwater tanks it was a Wal-Mart starter kit

I had a ten gallon since I was 11 yrs old now I'm 25 and now my little sister has it just a new hood and filter and its holding up great lol but I wonder that same thing about my biocube all the time! I wonder what it's lifespan is? Does anyone know?

My first 55 went bad after about 23 years, although I have to admit I abused that one and it was used when I got it. I kept a Red Ear Slider in for long time and he did the most damage and between that and hauling it around to every crappy apartment that I lived in, it finally bit the dust last year.. I recycled the glass and it currently resides in 3 different builds

;-)

That reminds me... Thank you Rich for hooking me up with a "new" used one- I still owe you one

The oldest tank I know of that's still up and running, was built by O'Dell, which used to be here in Canton, back in 1973. It's in remarkably good condition for being nearly 41 years old - but it does have a bit of wear and tear on it, but it still holds water just fine (knock on wood).

I sold a tank a few months before I closed, that I bought new in 1988. I'd taken it down a while before that but it held water when I took it down and I had no reservations about it.

Much depends on how it is cared for - if the silicone is abused, scraped, etc., it probably won't last as long, but if care is taken not to damage the silicone, and it's on a good stand and level, it should last for many, many years.
