I am curious about a couple of things.... I am changing the plumbing out from under the DT. Is there any reason to use 1" PVC, if your unions have only a 1/2" hole in the center. I am running a mad 9.5. I am switching to running a Quiet One 4000 and an Eheim 1260. I want to go with 2 return pumps. I was thinking why not just go with all 1/2" all the way? Please let me know what thoughts of return sizes are out there.... Will either make any or much pressure or volume difference?

Thanks
Nick

Are you talking about drains, or returns? I'm thinking returns since you're mentioning pumps. Usually a return is 3/4" (and drains are 1") in most tanks. Whatever you do, ALWAYS have drains wider than returns.

Always.

Yes returns not drains. Drains are 1" as well. All returns are 1" also currently. I was just thinking of dropping to 3/4". But I have decided to stay at 1".

I believe you want your return at 3/4 with your drain being 1 inch. That's the way I have it on my herbie
