Frag tank going from a 30g shallow to an 80g shallow. Have about 28g water in the tank and maybe another 15g in an eshopps 200 sump. Have a brute waiting to empty the tank less whatever drains into the sump when I pull the drain.

Have 60g newly mixed ESV saltwater ready to add with exact parameters. 30g in my basement at about 75 degrees and 30g in my garage at about 78. No sand, one live rock and one of those ceramic porous bio blocks in the sump. Those will stay.

Should I worry about my frags going back into all that new water? Should I do a water change from my DT (DT still has a large amount of water from my old salt mix so I'm a little reluctant) and add some of that down here (just did a 20g wc this weekend)? I really don't want to do a water change upstairs AND deal with all this. Not adding anything new into this tank besides two mp40s that have been sitting around.

I won't hold any advice responsible for any losses, this ain't my first rodeo... Looking for some opinions outside of my wife! :)

Thanks guys/gals

Water changing the tank their in first with the new salt and keeping the drain off would put you closer to an average I would think?? Maybe meet them halfway or something of this nature if your concerned. As long as ph/salinity/temp are the same they shouldn't have any issues tho.

I wouldn't sweat it. At frag swaps, corals are getting tossed in newly set up tanks. If you're spooked about it.......you can do small, more frequent water changes for peace of mind.

Agree with ringo. If ur worried put them in ur display and add a few frags at a time to the new frag tank

+1. I went from a 29gal biocube to a 60gal cube and didn't reuse any water. Everything lived and seemed happy. Get salinity super close and temp as close as you can.

One thing I wish I had done when I added my Frag tank and upgraded to the 120 was to seed the new tank a little heavier, I used 90% new base rock and all new sand. As such Im still going through a mini diatom bloom. Lessons learned. Ill have to come over and see the new Frag tank setup, I really liked your old setup!

So far so good. Proud of my plumbing! :D went behind up and over with the chiller output through the second overflow cutout.
Frags looks fine. Thanks for all the replies guys!

Have to get the apex fully setup, but that's enough for today.

Edit -- had to redo the drain pipe and ran out of preferred parts .. It works !
