Would the use of a tds meter like the ones on a rodi unit be of any use to help moitor the aquariums water quality between water changes as warning system to let you know something changed and the test kit is needed. Or is this device too sensitive to be used in this way?

wouldn't work, because the tds meter would read the salt particles and all other particles like calcium and magnesium in your tank.

So it would be too dificult to establish a base line like a fresh batch of mixed waters readings. Thinking lower numbers mean mineral consumption and higher numbers mean waste.

You could I guess, but why not just use the test kit lol. I don't even have a tds meter and just take my RO water to a LFS to get it tested. So I dont know if they are really sensitive or not.

a TDS meter usually offers a three digit display - ever stuck one in a saltwater tank?

I have with one of the hand held units awhile ago it read 580 if I remember correctly.
