Like with everything, everyone does something different. My tank is holding at 75* (74.7 to 75.6) currently I have only about 1-1/2” sand and 10# of dry rock and 10# of LR in my 75gal DT and about 2 ½” of sand in the sump. Have some shells and some crushed coral in sump for now but will be removing most in the near future. SG is around 1.023 to 1.025. It’s been hanging around 1.023-1.024. It hit 1.025 last night.

LQQKs like most are saying 78* for a reef tank. This is the direction I’m going but it will be slow. I hope to put 1 or 2 fish in this weekend but it might be too early. It’s been running for 3 weeks with LIVE SAND I got from someone that was from their tank that was taken down and sand was not washed, can you say DUST STORM. Don’t even get me started, lesson learned. Took me a week with using a 350 magnum filter and a 7”x24” 25 micron filter sock to clear it up.

I have had the LR in it for a week now. I just started testing this week when the LR was put in it. I don’t know what the levels were previously. My LFS said that with the LS I used it was REALLY dirty (showed here the pics) and FULL of ammonia and really low on the PH. I have been adding the reef buffer and stability as recommend for a week now. Looks like all the levels are good now. And has been holding for a week.

It LQQKs like the LR is starting to have some stuff attached to it. One LQQKs like it has some tiny red fin fans or something like that. There were a couple of rubbles in the LS I got and it LQQKs neat it has some fibers or maybe hair on it now and it’s moving in the water current. I have a tree on one of the rocks someone told me it was a weed. But I don’t know yet.

Here are some tests that were done this morning. the ammonia is more yellow than the picture is showing. What do you think? I know about the Api test kit but it was what I had and it’s what all the LFS sell, why?

As for lights, I don’t have anything special yet. Only a T-12 coral life single bulb. I will be getting either T-8’s or T-5’s later. Both have the 10k options.

Also you already know bump that heat up! It's better to have two heaters then one.

I would look at a better test kits. I have seen API kits crash tanks because the false read.

You are taking a Big chance if you put fish in now! If they do not die right away you may destroy their gills-it's a slow death! You may not have cycled, the ammonia may not have turned to nitrite. The nitrate may be from the dirty sand. You do not have enought live rock to cycle this fast, if you had 75-125 lbs I would say that it might be (just my opinion, I have 8 SW and 1 FW tanks). The tree is a Kenya and it looks like you may have some button polyps-It is almost impossible to kill either of them. You will be a lot happier if you give it a little more time-PATIENCE is the hardest thing in reefing. Wish you the best, your pictures are really good/very clear! :D Holley

Amen. Your sanity, wallet and livestock will benefit well keeping this in mind. Looks like you are off to a good start.

Check with some of the sponsors to see if they have the Salifert Test Kits. I picked some up at Optimum this week and they had a good selection of them. They are a bit more than the API but well worth it IMO.
