I have a 14gal Biocube that I am having trouble keeping the temp up during the night. I have a 50w finnex titanium heater in the 1st chamber set at 79 degrees and w/the lights(3x24w pcs) on the temp stays at 78.6 degrees, Even after the two daylight bulbs turn off the temp stays the same w/just the actinic on for the next hour. My problem is that for the past two mornings the temp has been at 76.7 degrees. The only thing I can think to do is put the hood fans on a timer to run on/off w/the lights, but I am not sure how big a difference this will make? Any suggestions or ideas would be great because I know this 2 degree swing in temp. is not going to be good once I have livestock. Thanks yall for any help.

Are your fans running all night long? If so, then that's what's causing it - evaporative cooling is very effective - maybe too effective in this case, while the lights aren't on.

If this is the case, then I'd suggest putting the fans on the same timer as your lights.

Thanks for the quick reply and yes my fans run all night. I will head out and grab a timer this morning, that will be timer number 5 on this small setup. Thanks for the help again.

only 5 timmer?

you can buy somthing like this at petsmart and save you some timmer. It have 2 day and 2 night set + 4 outlet that will be on all the time.

You might want to consider a small controller, like the
a> - it has 8 outlets, and can control things based on time, pH, temperature, etc. It's powerful, yet simple, and much easier to manage than a bunch of timers. I highly recommend it - it'll save you heartache in the long run!

Thanks for the info. Wolfie. I will stop by the Petstore first to see if they have one. That is one thing about the Biocube is that everything runs on independent switches. The two daylights are on the same switch, the Actinic has its own, both sets of LED Moon lights have a thier own switch, and the fans run on their own switch too. I think I covered all the switches, it is becoming harder to hide the equipment.

I recommend you avoid the Coralife timers. A lot of people have had a lot of bad experiences with those. Better to get a good garden timer from Lowes or HD or as Mojo pointed out a controller. In the end, they aren't all that expensive considering what all they do.

Thanks for the info on the controlers and timers. I ended up just picking up a regular old out door timer (kind that has the built-in extension cord) and set the fans to run in line with the 10,000K daylight bulbs. Thanks yall for the help and tomorrow morning we will see if this was the main cause of my temp. swing.

Tomorrow I will also start dosing my Prodibio Kit. I picked up the Prodibio Bio Kit Nano Reef from MD and it came today. See how this stuff works on a small tank.

Last night When the 10,000K daylights and the fan turned off the temp. of the tank was 78.8 degrees. Over night with only the LED moonlights on and no fan the temp. in the tank dropped to 77.8 degrees, that was at 5:30 am. The house temp is set to drop 3 degrees over night. I guess my question is is this one degree change over night going to be ok? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it. My tank temp change from 2-3 degrees over night all the time. As long as it not sudden change then you are fine with 1 degree change
