In efforts to reduce my powerbill, I took a look at the useage of my 75.

I had the canopy fan running whenever the MH's were on, and consequently, the 250 watt heater was running about 90% of the time during the day trying to keep the tank at 78.

I bought a dual stage ranco controller, installed it today.

"Setpoint" is 78 deg, fan comes on at 79, heater will come on at 77.

Thats as fine as I can set it, unless I'm missing something? will that temp swing effect my tank?

I don't have an digital temp meter on the tank, although I ordered one and it should be here tomorrow or thursday.

Thoughts?

Can't edit my posts anymore, but I wanted to add the fans kicked on and off today a bunch while the lights were on. Heater stayed off all day (as I suspected) which will be nice on the power bill.

i think my temp swings from like 79 to 84 at the hottest part of the day.....i think it has a lot to do with the heater always on in my room but my tank has always done this and i have had great coral growth and all my fish are healthy and happy so i would say you dont have anything to worry about but im no expert
