Thinking about upgrading to a new sump, the one i have now is a 30 ish gal modded wet dry and is a bit small for all "me riggins". right now my sump area is like an octopus wire wires and tubes running everywhere and i want to get it cleaned up - feels like im working on a car engine down there. I have 2 overflows and 2 returns on my tank.

any ideas on what to get for a reasonable price? config?

also - who hard pipes and who soft pipes? I currently have mine soft piped and I hate it. I heard hard piping cuts down flow though.

should I run dedicated pumps for each return?

The only advantage of two return pumps that I can think of is redundancy, but depending on the pumps it would take up more room, use more power and create more heat. Rather than a second pump I'd get a controllable power head like Vortech if you don't already have them.

I prefer to do glued hard PVC for any short runs and glued soft for long runs like going to another room or the basement.

I too, have a 55 gal sump sitting in my garage that needs a new home.
