This may be a dumb question but I am thinking about adding one large piece of base rock to my established tank's sump. Will this piece cause an ammonia spike in a 120? How do you introduce it? Thanks.

What Barbara said. I have taken base rock that was bleached a while back and then rinsed good and added it to my tank or sump with no problem.

Hmm. Well it is smaller than my dachshund :) so I'm guessing it weighs between 5-7 lbs. It is dry as a bone-I pulled it out of my tank because it had several aptasias on it and let it dry out. So now I want to put it back into my sump which is an extra 20gal so I guess essentially I have a 140 gal system. When you mean RODI water, is this freshwater or salted? And how long would I put it in another container?

You can just put in your tank with no problem. An established tank of your size can handle a lot more extra organics with no worries. It's akin to feeding your tank a lil extra one day just cause you enjoy watching your fish eat. :)
