Toadstool stub

A couple of days ago I re-did some stuff and found my toadstool had attached to a rock midway up its "stalk". The base was attached to a plug and I cut free to leave it on the rock. It's still expanding big and happy and loving life. Now, will the stub left grow out or should I toss it?
