my tomato clown's eye is popping out of his head. Anything I can do for him, or is he going swimming with the fishies?

do you have a qt?

is it a bacterial infection?

ifso there is this thing from seachem that is an antibiotic and ill tell you the name if you want.

It might be a condition called popeye.

Quick link to some info about popeye and how to treat the condition:

A quick snip from the article:

To help aid in the continued health and healing of the fish during the course of this condition, oral feedings of foods soaked in selcon or another type of liquid vitamin, along with foods mixed with a broad spectrum antibiotic such as tetracycline, chloramphenicol or kanamycin are suggested. Eventually the eye will deflate, but may result in various conclusions.

Good luck on your fish. I had a fish with popeye about 13 years ago. It healed up on it's own.

Here is another article on popeye:

Best of luck.

Popeye is a symptom of illness not an illness itself...

If it is only one eye, it sounds bacterial to me. Meth blue will help but you might have to move to some antibiotic treatments. It is not as serious as it looks. Some popeye will clear up on its own. Make sure he is eating well, you might try some selcon mixed in with his food, or a medicated food containing 5-Nitroimidazoles (aka: metronidazole).

the mertronidazole is what i was going to recomend but that can not be used in a tank with corals. the corals health will decline for about a month and they will recover after the month is over after treatment, if they make it.

Metronidazole should work. I wouldn't use it without Seachem's Focus, however, if you're feeding it. Focus is a binder that will cause to medication to stick to the food. Without it, you'll lose a lot of it into the water column.

If you don't see any improvement in 2-3 days with metronidazole, I would try Seachem's Kanaplex with focus. Metronidazole does have antibacterial properties, but is not an antibiotic; it's an anti-infective drug. Kanaplex is an antibiotic that is also easily absorbed through he gills, making whatever does come off the food more beneficial to the fish. The metronidazole isn't as harsh, so I would start with that one.

Your best bet is quarantine, but medicated food should do the trick. Just use a 1:1 ratio for the Focus and medication.

Thanks guys. He has made it through the night. He is not eating at all. The other eye looks like it has spewed some goop or something...looks painful.

I'll shoot down to petland and see if they have any meds.

He spent the night in a meth blue solution, hope that was safe. It's all I had left.

What are you talking about willis?!? Please make sure you research the above statement...

Raj, Meth blue is safe for a prolonged period with no problems... If you want me to swing by and look at him tomorrow, I should be able to fir it into my schedule.. I will bring my med kit (getting low) but see if I can offer anything in the way of advice.
