top off

you can get a kit from http://www.twopartsolution.com">www.twopartsolution.com</a>

it is the same kit from aquahub, except cheaper. [IMG]http://www.twopartsolution.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25&products_id=342">http://www.twopartsolution.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25&products_id=342</a>

then you just need a pump.

I did mine a bit different

I ran my RO line straight to my tank. Fitted a 12v solenoid inline on the RO line, and connected 2 float switches to it. When the bottom switch is down, the solenoid gets power letting the tank fill with RO. When either switch is up, it interrupts power to the solenoid, closing off the flow or RO.

Top switch is back up (obviously). My RO runs about 20 feet from the DI filter to the tank, 15 across and about 5' vertical, and has no problems making it's way to the tank. No more hauling water, no RO container sitting next to the tank.

Cost, about $15 :)

This is REALLY good if you are going to dose kalk with a DIY kalwasser reactor, no worry of a float valve getting stuck because it got gummed up :)

for a few dollars more, you can go with http://www.autotopoff.com/">http://www.autotopoff.com/</a>
It works great and already put together.

I bought mine from Sam and set it up with a Gen-x pump in a 10 gallon bucket. I have to fill the bucket up once a week instead of running it to the ro unit. (ro not hooked up all the time)

Jeff would you recomend this one over the one listed above in this thread? The cost is about $35 difference and would like to somewhat compare.

I'm also using a autotopoff.com unit. I've actually bought 2 units from them so I can say I'm happy with their products. The dual unit gives you more security against flooding. I would recommend the dual float switch sump model to anyone. The JBJ auto top-off works well also if you want something that gives you a more polished look and feel plus it has some delayed top-off features that can help prevent flooding or constant on/off switch. In the end they both produce the same results.

I bought mine from Aquabuys and it was basically plug and play. I am thinking about the other one for return pump overflow protection though. Like the add for the DIY top-it-off kit says if you aren't comfortable messing with 120vac buy the one from Sam.

No I wasnt going to buy the DIY kit I was contemplating the dual from [IMG]http://www.autotopoff.com">www.autotopoff.com</a> or the one Sam carries. I do like the more polished look that Sams ATO has. I really need to grab one of these...did Sam give you the ARC discount on that as well.

I don't remember if I got the discount due to the number of things I have ordered from him, but I did get free shipping.

Stroid...you really need to get one. The stress level with re-filling TO water just goes away. Honestly other than filtration and lighting it's one of the most important constants in your tank!

Thanks for all the info guys I am doing my research and will probably purchase one over the next couple weeks.

Well made me a air pressure fed top off..making sure it works good then gonna paint it.. the pvc pipe stays at the waterline and when it drops air comes in and allows water to fill coming out of the qaurter inch tubing..then stops when it gets back to the pvc

That's actually pretty cool! Nice job!

Edit: Main thing I would be concerned about would be maintaining an air tight seal.

cool i thought about doing a system like this for my pico but i didnt want a coke bottle sitting on top of it all the time lol do you refill through the lid or through the quarter inch tube?

Having that DIY ato on the back of the tank and then keeping it filling it and maintain the seal....
I rather like to trust on a brand name ato, just my personal preference

Right now just thru the half inch pvc but I have to get me a rubber stop and drill a hole in the top to make it easier to fill..the lid is sealed tight....
