I am in need of power heads, I am deciding between the rw-15 and mp40wes. I have owned the vortechs before and loved them but unsure of its worth it. Its even harder now that the price dropped. $530ish for vortechs or $185 for the jebaos.
Opinions?

The new jebaos throw the same flow as vortechs now, just way stronger. My rw40 throws sand in a 5x2 tank by itself. Very impressed with them.

This is what 2 RW can do in a 120. Save the money and spend it on coral. :-)

How do you like the RW battery backup?

I love mine it runs the whole system.

Do the rw series have a better spread than the wp Jebaos?

I've used both and just went through several weeks of Jebao only. As soon as I got Vortechs back in my tank my diatom problem dropped in a major way.

Vortech has top notch customer service. That being said, my Jebaos are soaking in vinegar now waiting to get called up to the big leagues again.

They don't have battery backup. At least mine don't. I am like grouper. Or will be as soon as I replace the carburetor.

Nope. Got enough friends, neighbors and family to do that. Besides most of the battery back ups are not going to last long enough for me to return from vacation.

Not sure if the price helps the decision, but you can pick up a rw15 new for as low as $85.00 and it directional unlike the vortech.
They just came out with the control adapter for the rw' to be controlled by the apex also.
I'm running 3 rw15 and 2 mp40's on my DT and running the 40's at 50-80% and the rw' don't get over 30%, apart from the power cable in the tank I'm kinda leaning to the rw' sand if the go bad as everything will, it's cheaper to replace.

I had a controller for my RW take a swim. Replacement was $10.00 plus about $3.00 shipping.

There's Tunze too. I don't know the pricing, but I love mine.

OK, I broke down and purchased two rw-15's at pure reef yesterday. I put one in my tank, these things are crazy powerful. I may need to trade someone the rw-15 for an rw-8.

I have 2xRW-15's in 120 and it has been running perfectly fine axcept the fact RW-15 is too much for 4 feet tank. Many of us were able to grab them around $65 from group buy last time I think. However, I am going to buy me a 2xMP40 to replace them since MP40 is so much esier to clean. And there is no comparson between Wp vs Rs when it comes to flow pattern. Owned all three pumps in the past, I am going back to vortech. :)
