Okay I am totally confused now...which does not take much these days.....there is an article in REEF AND CORAL magazine about using trace elements in the reef tanks. I understand that some of these elements can be deadly if they get high in the tank to fish, invertebrates and corals. This guy is saying not to use any in between your WC. He states that if you do your reg. maintance and
WC on a weekly to bi-weekly schudule, that the trace elemnts will stay at the proper levels. What about people who do WC on a monthly basis and is he correct or just nuts:lol2:? Thanks Mike:fish:

I've read the same thing about doing weekly/biweekly WC replenishing trace but I've also seen blogs of tanks where people do monthly and still have beautiful tanks. Of course most of the blogs are typically larger tanks (300+ gallons) so there may be something about the size affecting that.

Outdrsguy.....tanks that large they probably are using a dosing system or a cal.reactor. maybe someone with a tank that large will chime in here.

Beware do your research and select carefully some trace elements contain copper.

There is an old saying "Don't dose anything that you can't test"

Hi clay, I use Seachem fuel for reefs. It contains 1pg (amount per gram) of copper in it. But I use this about every other week with a WC in between dosing. But before I dose I check cal. level if it is within limits I will not dose. I am very cautious with anything that has copper in it even this product.

That's kind of my point. if you are already adding a trace amount Cu with fuel then start dosing the other stuff it could get too much too quick. Consistent water changes should keep the trace elements in line.

I'm not sure checking Cal before dosing fuel really tells you anything. Fuel is more or less dosing amino acids
