Hello hello!

Just taking a second to say HI and introduce myself. My name is Jeff. About 2 years ago my wife Jen "wanted a goldfish". Well, since we never did anything small, we went for a mixed reef instead without really knowing what we were getting into. However, we did educate ourselves quite well in it, and after a rather catastrophic experience with our Biocube 29, we upgraded again to a Marineland 60 cube.

We just moved that cube from Milwaukee down here to Atlanta. What an adventure that was! Of which, I'll write the tale of it some day soon with pics.

Anyhow, just stopping by to say HI. I looked in the rules and don't see anything against posting links to other reef sites, but if it's not allowed please modify/delete the links and accept my apologies.

Here's where it all began and where the upgrades started:
Biocube 29 big sump adventure:

Then comes that fateful day when the cube split.

As you see, I can be a bit verbose in my tales, but hey, I have fun with it.

Welcome to Atlanta!!

If you need anything or have any questions, post away!! We are always ready to help and love pictures!

Welcome! We hope you will decide to join with us. This is a great crew of people. Our meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of the month. The location and any planned speakers will be announced around the 1st of the month. I enjoyed reading about your adventures. Holley

Thanks! While I'm not much for 'clubs' per-say, I do support those which I interact with, so I'll likely join up in the near future.

One question which someone may be able to help me out with is that I'm desparately trying to source a couple of bottles of Reef Nutrition Tigger Pods, a bottle of PhytoFeast (also reef nutrition) and some frozen silversides, all without much luck.

Out of around a 50 mile radius of ATL, I've found *ONE* bottle of tigger pods in stock at Marine Fish (now don't y'all go buying them out from under me). And the other stores listed on the Reef Nutrition website, including: Einstein, Pets Unlimited, Warehouse Aquarium, Optimum Aquarium either don't carry them or don't have any in stock. Last hope is Creation Reef but I can't get a good contact number or website for them.

Is this really something off-beat down here? Seems like almost every store in WI (which were not really all that good) carried them.

TIA

-Jeff

Glad to see you pay attention!:lol2:

On Wisconsin!

Welcome to Atlanta, good to have another northerner down here. I moved down from La Crosse, WI not quite 3 years ago. FYI - don't bother trying to find a good place for cheese curds, they don't even know what they are down here.

welcome cheesehead

LOL.. so to make a short story long (which I often times do), I grew up in Northern WI (Wausau), and after graduating I could either stay and work in a paper mill or get the hell out. I chose option B and joined the Navy as a crypto tech. I met my wife while I was in school in FL, we bounced around the world a bit, and I got out in 96, moving back to Sonoma CA (where we spent 3 yrs in the navy).

We spent time there, then on the east coast and then back into the midwest. Just moving around for jobs and/or adventure. I wound up back in SE WI, just outside Milwaukee completely by accident in 2001. We were trying to get out of there ever since, but had some family obligations with my wife's grandmother. We wanted to move back down South and wanted a big city, out of hurricane zone. That really limited it down. After spending some time in ATL, we really liked it and started watching downtown properties.

My wife's grandmother passed in early 2009 and coincidentally, the housing crash opened up a LOT of places down here, so we started shopping foreclosures (what a NIGHTMARE that was. Seriously, you'd think the banks would WANT to get rid of these places. Ummm no. They don't care.). We found a place and closed on it just before Christmas, but needed to do a little work on it and needed to let our kids get out of school.

Three days before graduation, the moving truck came and packed up what we didn't sell off (sold off everything we could from our ~4000 sq-ft house to downsize to our 1200 sq-ft loft), and the day after graduation we moved!

Then we went back at the end of June for my parent's 50th anniversary and to move the tank.

And in the middle of graduation, moving, etc, my wife's dad found out he had cancer and passed away 6 weeks later. It was absolutely surreal. So she spent a few months in the air between MKE, ATL & LAS (vegas). What a mess, but we're through it and enjoying NOT living out of a suitcase for once. LOL..

Luckily I'm fortunate enough that I can work pretty much anywhere so this was a move of choice which we wanted to do and were able to do. It's amazing how many people in WI are completely jealous of us for moving south "just because". But when you spend 9 months below 60 degrees, and your big 1 month summer hits like 85 as a high, it's just too ****ed cold. And the heat here?!? I'm very happy with it. I don't have to shovel it!

And yeah, y'all might not have cheese curds, but you do have grits & sweet tea! haha... my only disappointment came when I realized no more milwaukee baby dill pickles (best on earth, I promise)...
