my set up info! 90gal tank, a sump with 2 socks, a protein skimmer, a marineland 1475 gph pump, 4 powerheads. duel maxspec razors. water temp 77, 0 nitrites 0 nitrates, ph at 8.3, no ammonia. calcium at 480ppm, kh about 8 or 9 drops or 160+ ppm. tank is about 2yrs old yet every torch I put in there dies! photoperiod runs max from 12pm till 4pm then vamps back down! Anyone know why my torches keep dying?

the first 2 where high , this time put it middle on bottom!

Edit: its right under the Duncan in my profile pick!

Interesting... I've never heard anything about torches needing high Mg and K... Not doubting, but I haven't heard it.

I've seen some people keep torches and frogspawns in some of the least "maintained" tanks.

I keep all my torches and other euphyllia sp. at the bottom of my tank, under a 400w halide and 4x24w t5s.

Coincidentally, the Mg and K levels are maintained high for the SPS.

so maybe there is too much light
those razors are pretty strong at 100% for 4hrs a day!

Edit: I was told they were very hardy (torches) yet I have lost 3 frags trying to get one going! I do not test for mag. or potassium! gezz I test everything else though!

Edit: food maybe? I feed plankton to my corals twice a week!

I recently bought the Elos potassium kit.... I wouldn't really reccommend it. Kinda funny to read and doesn't give a very specific reading.

Def check your mg though.

Torches are hardy, but they don't come from shallow water, so try keeping them lower.

mine seems to love flow.its under 2 250watt halides and the more it seems to move the more it grows.it is low how ever.its almost at the bottom of 75 and lights are about 14 off the water

From my experience. They like flow just like frog spawn. Hammer. But if u blast thwm with it they will shed and die. Def keep them lower in the tank.

Yep, another vote for LOW/bottom in the tank and indirect flow. My torch & trumpets have gone from 1 head to FULL "domes", as in they got so big they cannot sprout anymore heads. I've cut them in half a few times and they regrow back to the full-dome quickly. They are a crazy hardy coral IME.

I've always treated all my euphyllias the same medium/low light with a decent amount indirect flow and they normally do very well
