As a part of my environmental class we have began to participate in a very cool program called Trout in the Classroom.

Starting with eggs students raise, then release the young Trout into a local river/stream. This program is designed to teach kids about Trout biology, environmental responsibility, water testing, and much more.

At my school we are going a step further by taking the information we gain over the course and compiling it into various lessons that we can then take and share with the younger grades. These projects we're working on include things like Trout anatomy, life cycles, tank matinence, the importance of Trout in the ecosystem etc.

Why couldn't we set up a program like this for coral and reef ecosystems. I feel like since we're not on the coast the importance of the reefs is a neglected subject in our traditional education system. It's hands on projects like this that really inspire learning.

That's a cool project! Good luck with it!

I think that some schools have marine aquariums that students can work with. Reef2Rainforest did a great feature earlier this year on an elementary school in Illinois: http://www.reef2rainforest.com/2015/03/28/tanks-in-classrooms-setting-up-an-educational-aquarium/">http://www.reef2rainforest.com/2015/03/28/tanks-in-classrooms-setting-up-an-educational-aquarium/</a>

Obviously, this hobby can be expensive, takes a lot of time, and there's a steep learning curve. Those are probably some of the big hurdles facing teachers who want to pursue a classroom marine aquarium. For example, the teacher featured in that article paid $6000 out of pocket to get the project up to electrical code.

Keep us posted on your fish!

yes sir, loving it.
we do have a local school that is involved with that saltwater hobby, here is the link.....
