The more research I do on the subject, the more I am becoming convinced that my chaeto should have pretty good movement to it. It seems that keeping smaller fuges with high flow around the chaeto, but overall slow flow through the fugeitself (if that makes sense) , results in better nutrient export with smaller setups. Can anyone who tumbles chaeto confrim this, or clarify please.
 
Or is it simple as just flipping the whole clump over by hand every couple of days?
 
Really easy to do with flow (down or across) in small quarters or with a spray bar for a large open amount of it. Keeping water on it just helps eliminate dead spots in it that reverse the effects of the macro by poluting your tank with die off. Also helps with freeing sediment and nutrient build up that can be dropped and used in the sandbed
