can i restrict the flow output on the hydrofoamer without damaging the pump with a valve?

i have it on a small skimmer and it just pumps toooooo much water.

if I can restrict the water, but keep the air open it should perform well

If you did it on the output I would think you'd do fine. But restricting on the input is always a bad thing..

Output of the pum right? Not the skimmer. I just want to try and tone it down. Even w the skimmer output wide open it still Is WAY too high in the skimmer body.

yep, output of the pump. The other things to try are (duh) get the skimmer higher in the water (lower water level), and finally, get the output pipe of the skimmer either OUT of the water or right at the water line. That backpressure from it will raise the foam line.

Obviously if you've used any putty or additives that cause foaming, you have to wait it out.

I used some Chemiclean a week ago and just today I put the skimmer back online (instead of dumping into the sump). And I've got the valve WIDE open and it's STILL skimming super wet.

got it to work pretty dang well actually,

I just took the stand pipe on the skimmer output all the way off... I still have to dial back the air intake a bit, but it seems to be working well now.
