Under Aquarium Placement

Under my tank stand there is limited space due to the placement of two 2 x 6's. I haven't fully set everything up, but I am thinking of removing the two 2 x 6's on the front end and possibly just reinforcing the 2 x 4's to make up for that. I need suggestions and room for the plumbing, sump, and the other equipment. Not to mention I may need some plumbing help. I contacted the guys over at Blue Planet about doing the plumbing because due to work I just did not have time, but that was back in May when they last responded with promises to get back to me on several occasions. It is now September and I am ready to see my own piece of the ocean again.

I don't under stand the changes you are proposing in conjunction with the pictures. Are you talking about removing the horizontal 2x6s?

It appears to me to be WAY over engineered. What size tank? My 180 has only 3 - 2x4's across the back and none on the ends or front. It's all about the wood and the proper width to span ratio.

Check out this post, it will give you good guidance on support methods and how you should assemble the stand. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1169964">http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1169964</a>

+1 This is what I followed when I built mine but made it taller. I have tons of room under mine. I would take yours apart and start over. Once the tank has water in it you are stuck.

the way it is constructed from what I can see, it limits all the potential room you would have for equipment.
unfortunately the only way I can figure to correct that issue would be to disassemble and re-build the stand, you might be able to reuse most of the lumber.
