I thought it was the first signs of HLLE. He seems to be rubbing against the back wall. I do weekly water changes and feed prime reef(ocean Nutrition). I've been kind of bad about providing Sea weed...but I did put some in tonight.

Edit:

Edit: I cant get the pictures to blow up as big as I can on my laptop but, it's small white areas around his head.

looks like starvation & malnutrition to me.....horrendous.

soak some nori sheets (you can get from publix, H mart) and put some selcon on them (marine designs, online at F&S), and change 3 times a day......

too bad it's not against the law.....

Starvation... Definitely not.
Malnutrition... Maybe. I feed them good quality frozen food.
And I dont know what you're referring to as "against the law"... But I take pretty good care of my fish. This is the only one displaying signs. Thanks.

How long have you had them there guts are pronounced and look thin
Tangs are mainly herbivores and frozen foods lack a lot wen it comes to these guys average tang will eat 50bites a min up to 1/2 there bodie weight a day
I would increase there diet git twolittlefishis veggies and keep there clip full also spectrum pellets with garlic

Give the increase in diet a week and see if they git better if the start taking a nose dive on you treat the tank with melaflex marine follow the directions to the letter the stuf works wonders helps boost the fish natural immune system its coral clam shrimp and crab safe as long as you follow the directions

It looks like malnourished to me! But hey, it's just a pic, maybe I'm wrong..anytime I see something malnourished I assume it's the owners responsabilty, whether a fish, dog, human, whatever...

You stated that u weren't feeding it properly, knowingly! That's abuse in my book...

It's an herbivore!

Edit: At least, omnivore...mostly algae, seaweed is its food source..
Research first, before u buy it!

Edit: Selcon and nori sheets on a clip is the easiest and best way to recover if it's not too far gone....

I feed 1 frozen cube daily. I stated that I had been bad about providing sea weed lately, not food. All of my other fish look fat to me. I was just curious to know if it was the beginning stages of HLLE.

how many fish are in the tank? not that im a pro or anything but one cube a day for two tangs dont sound like enough to me.. much less any more fish.. and from what you have said it sounds like its lack of care.. again im no pro at this but just what it seems to be to me..

angs require food through out the hole day mostly alge in the wild about the only meat they eat is scrap from other fish they are not predators most school

Early stages of head and latteral line erosion looks like peeling skin
Your tangs look fine just starved fatten them up with seeweed wile you can or risk losing them

7 fish total. 2 clowns, 1 sixline, 1 chromis, 1 firefish, 2 tangs. I was told feeding every other day would be fine. Just going by with what I've been told...

Thank you for your helpful advice! :) I've only had both tangs for probably 6 months or so. So, I wasn't really sure what exactly "fat" looked like.

Hi, I just wanted to tell you not to be discouraged, more research needed to be done on your part but we learn from our mistakes. You know some people will be harsh but they do have a point, these are living creatures that are depending on our ability to care and provide for them. However, members that are more seasoned in this hobby should remember that we are here to get advice and learn from their experiences and knowledge.
I am also new to this but please do these animals justice by doing some research even if you're itching all over to get something new:tongue:

BTW keep us posted how your fish is doing

Thanks! I've been in the hobby now for about 3-4 years; I've always had smaller fish. (:

No, I don't have a petco in my area. I trust my LFS advice.

They never specifically said tangs and when they said every other day they most likely meant a lot more food than I've been giving.

Saltbubbles that was great advice.
For the few Harsh opinions that were noted .
Atleast he was asking for some advice to fix his issues.
Which in his case looks to be him needing to add some veggies and seaweed and maybe even add pellets and garlic guard to the Tangs diet.
Good luck on getting it back to good health

I will feed them more. And yes, I understand he was saying they're underfed but I don't need the advice given to me in a rude way. Other than not enough food, the fish are taken care of very well. My water is spot on usually.

Hey don't let some of these guys get you down. Atleast you care enough to examine your fish and see somethings wrong and asked for help. Good on you for that. My wife loves to overfeed so I don't have to worry about that. But yea through some seaweed or even some lettuce and they should be ok. Good luck
