I am running an Apex with multiple EB8s, all daisy chained to one another.
Can I problem free change the internal wiring (e.g. Base unit to EB8_1 change to base to EB8_2) and the system will still know which EB8 controls what?
Or does the system identify the EBs by location rather than internal address?

The way I understand the manual, it is internal address. There is a big section on "how to tell which EB8 is which", and if it were physical location that wouldn't be necessary.

I just named each outlet like mhleft mhright actinic etc. Eb1 controls the plugs one the right of may tank and Eb2 is for the left side. Under the menu everything goes in order. Right 1-8 then left 1-8.

Edit: And I will reverse the ports tomorrow to see if it crosses them up.

You probably figured this out already but, the ordering of the cabling is immaterial. The addressing is stored in the EB8. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed on the Apex and all your EB8s before moving stuff around. Some of the early firmware versions have problems with this in some situations and would assign a new Aquabus number when unplugged and plugged back in which messes up your programming. There is a secret telnet command that will re-arrange Aquabus numbers if it happens to you.

It's internal, all on a bus. Anything can plug in anywhere without reconfiguration.

While I believe you folks,
That's not what happened...

I had to switch a USB cable due to some space problems and none of my 3 EB8s worked correctly - the heater thought it was the light and the light thought it was the pump.

Quick reset fixed it, but anyone with elaborate programming would be stumped...

Yea, you ran into the problem I was referring to at the end of my post. Your EB8s probably changed Aquabus addrresses from the sound of it (heater thought it was a light, etc). I don't know why this happens but it does every once in while...

But the bottom line is that how you plug them in or in what order has no bearing on the address they have or the function they perform. The EB8s should keep the same address no matter where they are plugged in. Sorry to hear you had a problem...

I messed with my setup several times to get the addressing the way I wanted (I wanted the Aquabus addresses to be in order around the room). This part of the Apex could use some user friendly tools to manage the addressing...

The only time you will have a problem is if you save your program and replace a module. You will need to plug the eb8 in the same USB port and then load the program.
