UV -- help control algae?

I thought I had asked this question -- but I didn't and I only found one post using UV as the search criteria.

Would a UV unit be a practical investment to help control algae?

I would say, no, for a reef tank. You are better using a Phosphate reactor and using RowaPhos. Phosphates is most likely what is causing your algae issue.
 
I agree with the above. UV helps clear algae in the water but that's not much of an issue in reef tanks like it is with fresh water tanks. UV is mostly used in reef tanks for parasite control and does clarify the water some as well.
