I'm building a new system and found a great deal I think on a ViaAqua terminator 36 watt UV sterilizer. I've never used one before and am wondering if anyone could help with what size or brand pump would be best to use to get minimal flow for maximum sterilization without over heating the water in the unit. It will be on a 100 gallon total water volume system. I'm planning to pump the water out and back into the first chamber/Skimmer section of the refugium.

Verry interesting reed Mojo. So what it seems from what I have found so far and what I get out of the post above is the terminator model is rated for 500 gallons per hour of sterilization with a flow rate from the power head of 1300 gallons per hour. The only thing I haven't found is if this is the minimal flow that this unit can operate at.. I have a maxi jet 900 that I can use on it just not sure if the slower flow of water is a good or bad idea.

I don't know anything about the Terminator unit, but I'd be highly suspect of 1300gph through a 36watt UV. I ran my 154watt UV at ~300gph, and based on my calculations, that was just enough to make sure that everything was killed.

Until you're at a drop every couple seconds, slower is always better.
