Velvet and live rock

A friend of mine got velvet from somewhere. He has some live rock i was going to take off his hands and cycle my tank with but im unsure of the effects seeing he did have velvet? Anyone know if the rock is safe? To my understanding it lives on fish only? any ideas?

Just give the rock a muriatic acid bath before using it, and you should be fine

Defeats the purpose. I want to keep it live and need the bacteria to cycle lol. I think i got a fair answer that im alright as long as i let it be fish free for 45 days. Which is cool its a frag tank

Or you can seed your system with stability or microbacter 7 or one of any other booster cultures and it will greatly help establish your bio system without need of live rock and much faster

I ended up using Aqua Vitro Seed as well. I will wait the 45 fish free!
