I have lost a few clams recently that we're left on the sand bed. I even text a friend saying the nassarius were eating my clams. I thought they just died... Nooo!!! They were murdered. I just yanked 6 out of my tank . Sold to me as large nassarius

are the nassarius that eat clams the reg ones that you can find at any lfs. black and grey shell with a grey nose that comes out the sand?

The snorkels shrink will you cook them. There a snail that look like large cerith that taste really good too.

The pictured is a Butterscotch Nassarius.

The clam eating one is not a Nassarius - waiting for Melev to chime in with the exact name.

I am removing them regardless. And will be placing them in my sump. I want to try and keep some clams on my sand bed soon. I am not taking any chances . I saw them eat my clam , I am banishing all to my sump

I saw they in my clam before. I assumed the clam died and they were doing their job as scavengers. I have clams currently, the ones on rock are ok, all that I have placed on sand bed have perished and they have been smothering the clams body.

The first pic look to be of a different species than the 2 in the second pic. Quick google search does show other examples of the first being butterscotch nassarius as lilrobb said...

Clam eating snails are pyramidellid snails. They are tiny - not what you have.

I really wanted to buy some clams but have been apprehensive about large clams due to the death I have had. This may be a case of me blaming my failure on other things. But atm I will try to remove anything I think is a risk and sump them lol.

Lol all of them are in the sump . They can eat all the left overs in there. I just need to figure out if it's me or something that's killing clams

Come in. Well talk clams. I can spout on about them all day. fisrta nd foremost, get them off the sand. Few clams naturally live on the sand bed.

i feel like the Nassarius snails we received from reefcleaners look like the bad ones with the tattooed foot and snout and pointer shell... i think im paranoid now
