At what point do you get good at assessing coral colors that aren't in your tank? I am terrible.
I grab stuff that looks pretty dull and they end up popping in my tank. But mostly stuff looks super bright and amazing only to become muted when I take them home.

And this isn't acro specific...sometimes I'll end up with 2 of the same hammers or torches because I thought the colors were different at the store/other person's tank.

Is this a precursor to becoming colorblind? Just old age?

Same! 😆

I'm still waiting for the "popping in my tank" part of the equation! Honestly, I'm more and more convinced that lighting isn't as important as I used to think it was. Lighting is absolutely important but I spent a long time thinking a lighting upgrade would take care of my dull colors. Now that I have better PAR levels and spectrum, I still am having troubles bringing out colors in some corals. What does this mean as far as your question goes? It could be a lighting issue but, more than likely, it's a combination of a few different things. Right now I'm focused on nutrient levels and dosing aminos. "Everyone's tank is different" is a cliche in this hobby but it absolutely true.

Omg, I’ve been thinking the same thing Blood. I just did not know how to articulate words like you. I have so much to learn and can’t wait to provide my coral the maximum potential. But absolutely I know that my stuff looks way better when I first get them and then they change to what my tank is. In a way, I’m starting to think it’s like real life lol. When you guys figure it all out. Please please share. I want to learn from all of you!!!
