Article says it all. Has the potential for extreme economic damage for both US growers and our collectors overseas, who will be taking a significantly larger hit than us. Permits will be required to sell aquacultured fish and coral, for the same type which the Hawaiian government has been withholding from their fishermen.

It would be a disasterfest if this passes. Article lists some ways we can fight it off, most importantly to contact our local Congress members showing our disdain for the bill.

Thanks for this! I read most of the bill, but still not sure I’m following.. other than instead of research being done to provide that things being done are wrong or endangered, and stopping them.. they want policed control upfront, and for you to apply for a permit to get approval from them.. to justify actions you do as not impacting the species?…

Here’s the bill.

Anyone can propose a bill for anything though

I do find it interesting that activists can pick and choose what domestication/captivity is morally acceptable. Domesticated cats and dogs to 800sqft apartments in the city is allowed, or birds to a cage with clipped wings. I’m all for protecting the reef and fish, but evidence of an issue needs to be presented and we can address those specifically.
