Need some advice . . .
I am thinking about adding a VorTech pump to my 6' 125 gallon reef tank. What I was wondering is if one 40wES would be enough, or if it would be better to have 2 10wES' facing each other or both on the back wall. I have several other power heads/pumps for circulation. Would I still need them or will they interfere with the random programming of the VorTech? What do you all out there with similar sized tanks think? Do they make a 20wES?
Thanks in advance for the replies.:thumbs:

You need 2 mp40 ES minimum, but 3 is better....
One on the left and right and one on the back wall.

Thanks, I will eep that in mind. I will probably add one at a time, since I have so mny other power heads in there already (10).

If its a 125 most likely its half inch glass. mp10s wont hold on 1/2 inch so those are out. I have 2 mp10s on each side of my 72 bow. Its barely enough and I've had problems with them. It seems like running them at 95 percent isn't to good for them. What I originally wanted to do when I get a 120 is a mp40 on each side with the 2 mp10s on the back wall.

I would just get a couple of 40s and be done with it. Get the W models too that way you can sync them up and do some really cool stuff. At least get the es models. I really don't think the mp10s would be strong enough at each end of a 6 ft tank.

I think it really depends on your aquascaping as to how many you will need. I do not think three are necessary. I have run 2 on my 210 for several years with great success. I think a 120 does not have a lot of depth to it and adding one to the bank of tank would would mean that it would have to be turned down so much to keep sand from flying everywhere in the front. My two cents.

Various from koralias to seios to dual 2300s.

Edit:

Agree with all of these replies. Just ben reading about the Red Sea wave maker pro controlling 4 Koralia magnum 7s. I can do all of that for the cost of 1 VorTech 40wES. Any major concerns with that setup?

I have 4 mp40 es w on my tank. It's only 5 ft and I had to add 2 tunze and planning on buying 2 mp60. I don't think u can get away with 1. U will hbe alot of dead spots

Psh... Put 2 60s on her! go all out! jk i agree with them 2 should be plenty. If you got the doe then do 3

That's just it, I don't have $1,200 bucks for water movement. That's Why I also askedabout the Red Sea Wavemaker Pro with 4 Koralia Magnum 7s??

I have a 155g bowfront. 6 feet long X 24 X 24. I use 2 MP40es , one at each end about 2/3 of the way up the glass and along with my two return lines there seems to be enough movement.

If you put one 40 on the left and one on the right, you can eliminate the other 10 powerheads in your tank. Probably look a lot cleaner in there without them all.

I'd start with two and add a third if needed later, but I seriously think two 40s will do it for you in a 125.
