Hmmm wonder where this will head or was it resolved?

IMO it would be awesome to see Hydor or other companies get a shot at making pumps like this for 1/3 of the price..

R&D cost is always low when allowed to copy :tongue: Hence copyrights to protect ingenuity and effort.

However I would like to read more on this article.

It's business if they copy/steal ir whatever you want to call it then that's okay all it will do is force ecotech to compete on prices. It.really would be a win win for the consumer.

The motivation would be staying on top and being the best. Really if it were released their only real competition would.be tunze, everything else would be cheap just okay knock offs more than likely.

I don't hate ecotech or anything and I am actually looking at getting a mp10 now I just think that the need some competition to get the price down.

I'm not doggin on ya, just debating cause I'm bored.

And in that world marketing campaigns would be replaced by R&D.

End result would surely include some very overly hyped higher prices coupled with significantly lower quality product line dressed to impress.

I'd rather have the ingenuity.....

Just keep in mind, copyrights have a lifespan.

I thought copyrights last for 100 years? I don't ever really deal with anything like that so I have no clue.. What is the life of a this copyright?

So how come the standard circulation pumps aren't in question? Aqueon, Koralia and Tunze all have similar design with identical functions. Seems like someone out there should be able to make a variant of the Vortech's without infringing copyrights.

These companies like money, if they could they would I assure you.

As for the other pumps, you can't patent something already invented and a copyright has to be the originators unique design. My impression is the technology for those other pumps were already available and while used for a different purpose were not subject to copyright and patent protections.
