I have been getting home later than usual the past few weeks...i have always done my water changes during the day when the lights are on....are there any reasons not to change it with the light off...or on for that matter...i guess ive always not wanted to disturb the sleeping fishies

I don't think it should be an issue. Other than it's harder to see into the tank. I know there are those here who prefer doing water changes while the fish sleep so as not to cause stress.

i do it all the time. mostly it after classes or after work on the weekends. its easier so no one is out and about going to get sucked up either :D

great..gonna do one tonight then...got the new red sea coral pro salt rather than my old standyby read sea salt...cant wait to see the results..the specs are great..much higher calcium and magnesium than i have with the other salt..hope fishies like it too

Is there any possible way that the fish would 'sleep' through a water change? I would find it hard to believe that they would be able to ignore. Maybe my fish are just skittish...

I disturb my light cycle if I need to do maintenece during "non-lighted hours". Alot of my maintenece is done on saturday AM's and my lights dont turn on until 1pm so I always cut the actinics on while I work...

I'll be honest, there is no way I could do a change on my upstairs tank during the night. My yellow tang is cruising the tank if there's just a bit of light available. I swear, he only sleeps a few hours a night.

So I may as well do the water change with the lights on.
